Last fall I conducted a 6 month fundraising campaign to raise money for the Special Olympics VA through an annual event in Richmond called Over The Edge. After reaching my fundraising goal, I was able to rappel down the Suntrust building downtown in October with a GoPro. The campaign was in honor of my developmentally challenged cousin, Ryan Gasparich, who benefits from Special Olympics events every year. I raised a total of $1,546 from family, friends, strangers, and local businesses.
Mild Acrophobia, a dark mild beer, was brewed in collaboration with Triple Crossing Brewery in Richmond (logo pictured below). The release party for the beer was my final fundraising event, where 10% of the proceeds went directly to the campaign.
Other forms of communication occurred over social media, emails, presentations in classes as my university, phone calls, and fliers. The beer release also included t-shirts, table top framed fliers with links to my fundraising page (pictured below), fliers at the bar, and local event listings online and on Facebook.
If you’re interested in participating in the event or donating to the Special Olympics check out their website.
